Culinary Writing?

Hello, all!

I'm a freelance writer who specializes in the culinary industry. While I've got a culinary arts degree and experience in large-scale foodservice, most of the writing jobs (from all job listings, not just culinary) in the US demand a Bachelors degree. As restaurant owners looking for writers, social media coordinators, etc, do you feel like you need an applicant with a degree? Or does a portfolio and experience matter more?
