Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College's award-winning Hospitality Education Department, part of the college's Business and Hospitality Education Division, offers two-year associate degrees in culinary technology and hotel and restaurant management.
Culinary graduates will be prepared for employment with restaurants, hotels, resorts, clubs, caterers, and health care facilities, among others. Graduates have gone on to establish themselves as leading chefs. The college's Junior Hot Food Team has established a tradition of excellence by earning gold medals in state competitions sponsored by the American Culinary Federation. Teams also have earned gold medals in ACF's southeast regional competitions.
Hotel and Restaurant Management graduates will qualify for supervisory or entry-level management positions with hotels, resorts, restaurants, inns, and clubs. These positions include working in the front office, reservations, housekeeping, purchasing, dining room, and marketing.
Both programs emphasize a hands-on experiential approach to learning, that is facilitated by a low student to teacher ratio. The department's excellent reputation has led to a high level of industry involvement, numerous student internship opportunities, and graduate placement in some of the nation's most prestigious resorts, hotels, and restaurants.
A-B Tech is located in Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. In addition to providing spectacular recreational activities, the area boasts many fine resorts that offer our graduates outstanding opportunities for employment.
