Weekly Beef Commentary
Boxed beef cutout values were lower on light to moderate demand and moderate to heavy offerings. The rib complex was the only major area of the carcass to see appreciation this week. Chuck and round cuts traded generally steady, while the loin complex trended lower to sharply lower. Price ranges on loin cuts were also wider than normal in a reflection of growing inventories needing to be cleared. Forward business revealed a large package of Choice chuck rolls priced slightly lower than current pricing, while a significant quantity of Choice flap meat traded on a par to the spot market. Beef trimmings were lower on moderate demand and moderate to heavy offerings. Fed cattle and blended coarse grinds were also lower on moderate demand and moderate to heavy offerings. |
