School Description

Earn an Associate in Science degree, begin a career or change to a new one in the cosmopolitan heart of San Francisco. The hospitality industry offers diverse opportunities throughout the world. Whether your interests are in cooking, service, management, lodging, institutions, chains or independents, CCSF's Hotel and Restaurant Operation program can open doors for you.

San Francisco is a destination for tourists and business travelers from around the world. It is a mecca for gourmands and the hospitality industry in general. A well-trained and well-qualified graduate in the hospitality field is always in demand. CCSF's Hotel and Restaurant Department is the first two-year program in the United States, to train food service and lodging professionals. For a total cost of about $2,000 (including tuition, books, tools and uniforms for 2 years) you have the opportunity to earn an Associate in Science College degree (60 units), an Award of Achievement and an American Culinary Federation Certificate of Completion. Job placement assistance is available to all students. Each semester, well-known, growing companies recruit H&R students on campus.

The Hotel and Restaurant Department curriculum is designed to prepare students for employment in a wide range of careers providing the public with food, service and/or lodging. Upon graduation, depending on their abilities, interests and experience, students may qualify to work as: cooks and bakers; front desk clerks, reservationists, servers, hosts, managers and assistant managers in hotels, clubs, restaurants, cafeterias, institutions and bakeries; and with food companies and schools.

Students may select from three tracks in the Hotel and Restaurant Department: Culinary Arts, Food Service Management and the Hotel Management. All tracks are two year, Associate in Science degree tracks. Internships are offered in each track. In their final semester of the program, students work 240 hours in unpaid internships in the field of their choice. Internships are available in a broad range of fields in the hospitality industry; from small businesses to some of the most prestigious properties in the industry.

Job placement assistance is provided to all our students. Each semester, well-known, growing companies recruit H&R students on campus. Lastly students are encouraged to develop a network of contacts while they are in the program and to utilize the myriad of resources available through the program.
